when in Rome do as the Romans do is a very stupid phrase. it's like saying if they do something dumb, dangerous or just plain idiotic that it's ok too do so just because you are not in familiar teritory. it also follows the question of; if your friends jump off of a bridge will you do it too?
people need to realize the things they say. for instance, if someone insults you and disrespects you but then in the next breath says " you know I like you" they're trully saying I don't like you and I'll treat you how I want and get away with it socially because I said that I liked you. wake up people. this person does not like you. they are appearing to be a wolf in sheep's clothing.
